Student lounge officially dedicated to Ilona Weyers

At a small ceremony for close friends, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar formally dedicated a space in the CMU-Q building to Ilona Weyers, the late wife of Dean Michael Trick. The plaque naming the space the Ilona Weyers Student Lounge is from Qatar Foundation, who reached out to Dean Trick soon after Ms. Weyers passed away.

At the ceremony, Dean Trick said, “On behalf of my son Alexander, and the entire CMU-Q community, I would like to thank Qatar Foundation for the beautiful plaque that dedicates this space to a very special person who is dearly missed.”

Qatar Foundation representatives Maryah Al-Dafa, Executive Director, QF CEO Office, and Francisco Marmolejo, President of Higher Education, attended the gathering.

Ilona was a frequent visitor on campus, attending community events large and small. She particularly enjoyed getting to know the students and the Student Affairs lounge was one of her favorite places on campus. Ilona passed away in December 2020.
