DOHA, QATAR – Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) student Aya Elgosrani has brought home a significant honor from the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) 2025, the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. Held in Columbus, Ohio, ISEF 2025 saw over 1,700 students from across the globe compete.
Her research, titled “AI Model: Social Media and Mental Health,” employs AI-based predictive modeling to investigate the relationship between social media usage and the mental well-being of university students.
At the competition, Elgosrani received a Special Award by Mawhiba, a foundation from Saudi Arabia dedicated to supporting gifted and talented students. Elgosrani was the only student representing Qatar to receive a special award from the Mawhiba Foundation.
Elgosrani is a rising sophomore studying biological sciences at CMU-Q. She was also recognized on the Dean’s List for exceptional academic performance in her first semester at CMU-Q.
