CMU-Q Senior Honors ceremony recognizes excellence in academics, research, leadership

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university, celebrated excellence and achievement at the Senior Honors ceremony for the Class of 2022.

Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q, recognized the hard work and determination of the award recipients: “We will call many awards today, and each one represents enormous effort and determination. I congratulate each of you on a job well done.”

The award ceremony began by recognizing exceptional teaching and dedication to students. Patrick Walsh, assistant teaching professor of philosophy, was named the 2022 Meritorious Teaching Award recipient for his excellence in teaching.

The Outstanding Academic Support Award went to Safia Hemati, educational support specialist, and the Outstanding Course Assistant Award went to business administration student Ihsane Sadiki.

Senior associate dean for education, Dudley Reynolds, recognized Qatar Campus Scholars Fatima El-Sallabi, Đorđe Popović, Mohammed Tareef Sayed, and Fabiha Tahsin, who were selected at the beginning of the academic year for their distinguished records of academic and student leadership.

 

The Qatar Campus Scholars for the Class of 2022 are Fabiha Tahsin, Fatima El-Sallabi, Đorđe Popović, and Mohammed Tareef Sayed.

From the Qatar Campus Scholars, Fatima El-Sallabi and Đorđe Popović were named Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars, an annual award coming from Carnegie Mellon’s main campus. 

For the Class of 2022, recipients of the Senior Leadership Awards with distinction were Mohammed Al-Qassabi, Fatima El-Sallabi, Đorđe Popović, and Ayah Salameh. Senior Leadership Award recipients included Nour Mohamed, Rahaf Abutarbush, Yara Alshakhs, Mubarak Al-Sulaiti, and Arambha Niraula.
