Giselle Reis honored with 2025 Meritorious Teaching Award

DOHA, QATAR – Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) faculty member Giselle Reis has been named the recipient of the 2025 Meritorious Teaching Award. The award recognizes a faculty member for outstanding dedication, innovative teaching methods, and positive impact on students.

Reis joined the CMU-Q faculty for the 2016-17 academic year. She is now an associate teaching professor of computer science, and the area head for the computer science program.

The Meritorious Teaching Award is a cherished tradition at CMU-Q, reflecting the students’ appreciation for educators who go above and beyond. Each year, graduating seniors nominate faculty members who have significantly enriched their learning experience. A selection committee reviews the nominations and recommends an award recipient.

In their nominations, students consistently praised Reis for her innovative approach to teaching, unwavering support, fairness, and deep dedication to education. Several students highlighted her tireless commitment.

“Her energy and dedication to her work and courses inspire me to work hard and become better as well,” wrote one student nominator.

Another student lauded her teaching materials and clarity: “Her use of visual aids, interactive slides, and annotated examples helps break down intricate logical frameworks into digestible parts; there are always opportunities to actually pause the class and question the concepts we’re learning.”

The Meritorious Teaching Award was formally presented during the CMU-Q graduation ceremony.
