Computer science student speaks at Amazon OpenSearch conference

Raman Saparkhan, a computer science junior at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, was an invited speaker at the Amazon OpenSearchCon 2023 in Seattle, U.S.A. CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.

Saparkhan has worked as a contributor to OpenSearch for several months. OpenSearch is a community-driven, open-source search and analytics suite used by developers to ingest, search, visualize, and analyze data.

“I saw this as an opportunity to get industry experience on a large-scale project,” said Saparkhan. “It is very interesting to see how the concepts we learn in class are put into practice, and how a large project is just a complex system of small parts that have to fit together.”

Saparkhan spoke about his experience as an OpenSearch contributor at the conference, sharing insights, best practices, and ways to be an engaged contributor who is adding value to the project.

In addition to our top-ranked computer science curriculum, CMU-Q offers undergraduate degree programs in biological sciences, business administration and information systems.
