CMU-Q places second at Oman programming bootcamp

A team of three CMU-Q computer science students placed second at the first Hello Muscat ICPC Programming Bootcamp in Oman. The competition was organized by Harbour.Space University, in collaboration with Moscow Workshops ICPC and the German University of Technology in Oman.

At the bootcamp, Keivin Isufaj, Swapnendu Sanyal and Omar Sinan spent an intensive six days learning programming concepts and practicing those concepts in daily contests. The team placed second in a field of 10 in their division.

Coding competitions are excellent opportunities to practice coding skills. Giselle Reis, assistant professor of computer science and a faculty mentor for the team, described how helpful the competitions are for students: “Programming is like learning a language. We teach the concepts to the students in class, and the more they practice, the more they understand and the quicker they can solve problems.”

The Computer Science Program at CMU-Q follows the curriculum for Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science, which is recognized as a world leader in computer science education.
