CMU-Q announces class of 2020 scholars

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar announced the Qatar Campus Scholars and Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars for the Class of 2020, including the first Qatar Campus Scholar representing the highly selective Computational Biology Program.

Chosen by a faculty committee, the class scholars are announced at the beginning of the graduating class’s senior year. For the Class of 2020, there are five Qatar Campus Scholars who were selected for their academic excellence, as well as multi-dimensional characteristics such as volunteerism, involvement in student organizations, participation in sports or the arts, and leadership within the community.

The five 2020 Qatar Campus Scholars are: Fahad Salah Bahzad (Business Administration), Raghid Bsat (Computational Biology), Mohammed Nurul Hoque Hafiz (Computer Science), Muhammad Nahin Khan (Biological Sciences), and Fatima Mustafawi (Information Systems).

The Andrew Carnegie Society Scholar is an annual award extended to two CMU-Q graduating seniors, who are selected from among the five Qatar Campus Scholars. For the Class of 2020, the Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars are Muhammad Nahin Khan and Fatima Mustafawi.

The Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars Program was launched at Carnegie Mellon’s main campus in Pittsburgh in 1975 and has recognized nearly 1,000 students to date. The program recognizes undergraduate seniors for exceptional academic achievement, service and leadership.
