CMU-Q has named four students from the Class of 2026 as Qatar Campus Scholars. Gana Elnajjar, Phat Diep, Zeina Halawa, and Fatou Gueye were selected for their outstanding academic records and contributions to the university community. Gueye and Halawa were also chosen as Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars.
DOHA, QATAR – Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) has recognized four exceptional members of the senior class as Qatar Campus Scholars, with two also being selected as Andrew Carnegie Society (ACS) Scholars. This year’s scholars were selected from a senior class of more than 115 students.
Qatar Campus Scholars are chosen based on academic excellence, as well as multi-dimensional characteristics like volunteerism, leadership in student organizations, and participation in sports or the arts. The four students named as 2026 Qatar Campus Scholars are:
From the Qatar Campus Scholars, the Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars are selected. The ACS Scholars Program was launched at Carnegie Mellon in 1975 and has recognized almost 1,300 students to date. Selected by the dean of each CMU school or campus, each scholar receives a monetary award, made possible by the generosity of ACS members, to support their academic and personal growth.
Additionally, the ACS Scholars participate in an annual giveback event, where as a group they allocate funds back to student-led projects, campus organizations or the campus community.
For the Class of 2026, Fatou Gueye and Zeina Halawa have been chosen to represent the Qatar campus as Andrew Carnegie Society Scholars. The awards will be officially presented at the Senior Awards Ceremony in May 2026.
