CMU-Q students have new accelerated master’s opportunity through HBKU

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) is collaborating with the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), to offer CMU-Q students accelerated master’s degrees. Students apply at the end of the junior year, following a structured pathway that integrates HBKU coursework with the CMU-Q curriculum.

Dudley Reynolds is the senior associate dean for education at CMU-Q: “This collaboration highlights the tremendous advantages students have when they study in Education City,” he said. “This is an exceptional opportunity for CMU-Q students to earn an advanced degree in a shorter time frame, which can give them a competitive edge in high-demand fields.”

CMU-Q students who are accepted into an accelerated master’s program take one HBKU course per semester during their final year at CMU-Q. After graduation, they complete a year of full-time studies at HBKU to earn the master’s degree. Two new CMU-Q graduates are the first to pursue this new opportunity.

The programs provide specialized training in fields that dovetail with the undergraduate majors at CMU-Q: cybersecurity, data science and engineering, logistics and supply chain management, data analytics in health management, and information systems in health management.

“There are so many benefits to studying at Carnegie Mellon’s Qatar campus, including being part of the wider Education City community,” said Reynolds. “This is a very special place to learn, and I am so pleased to see new opportunities for students to grow and flourish.”

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar offers undergraduate programs in biological sciences, business administration, computer science and information systems.
