A profile of Zeina Mahmoud, a CMU-Q Class of 2026 Business Administration graduate and Qatar Academy Doha alumna. The story explores her academic interests in Strategic Management and Economics, her global experiences in Australia, South Korea, and the U.S., and her leadership roles on campus. It concludes with her selection as the Student Speaker for the CMU-Q Graduation Ceremony and her career aspirations in Qatar’s education sector.
As she graduates from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), Zeina Mahmoud reflects on a journey shaped by growth, community, and purpose. A graduate of Qatar Academy Doha, she has long been part of the Qatar Foundation ecosystem: “I am a QF baby!” she said. “I have been so inspired by Qatar Foundation and Education City and the opportunities I have had here.”
Academic Exploration and Policy Interests
Zeina pursued a degree in Business Administration, complemented by a concentration in Strategic Management and a minor in Economics. Drawn to the intersection of business, economics, and policy, she developed a strong interest in how systems shape markets and the communities they serve.
Courses such as emerging markets and Islamic economics helped her connect theory to real-world challenges, reinforcing her ambition to work in policymaking.
She hopes to contribute to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, with a focus on driving meaningful, long-term impact.
“I admire Her Highness Sheikha Moza’s work in education, and I would love to pursue a career that promotes education and gives others the kind of opportunities I have had here.”
Global Exposure and Experiential Learning
During her time at CMU-Q, Zeina made the most of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. As a youth advocate with Generation Amazing during the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia, she took part in conversations around education, women’s empowerment, and social change.
Her journey also took her to South Korea, where she explored innovation and technology, to Washington, D.C., where she shared her culture through the Alif Baa exhibition, and to Sri Lanka, where she supported community rebuilding efforts following natural disasters. Each experience added depth to her perspective and strengthened her commitment to making a difference.
Leadership and Community Impact
On campus, Zeina held leadership roles within the Student Majlis and the Carnegie Mellon Business Association, where she focused on strengthening structures and supporting future student leaders.
“The culture here at CMU-Q is very supportive and collaborative. I learned to value showing up for others and being part of a team, whether leading the team or just helping out.”
Looking Ahead
Zeina will represent the Class of 2026 as Student Speaker at the Graduation Ceremony.
“It’s an honor to be selected as Student Speaker,” she said. “We have worked so hard to get here, and I hope I can represent the class well.”
