Katara, CMU-Q in ‘strategic agreement’

Doha: THE Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) on Sunday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) to boost bilateral cooperation, develop strategic frameworks and provide training opportunities for CMU-Q students.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Katara General Manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al Sulaiti and CEO & Dean of CMU-Q Dr IIker Baybars.

Speaking at the event, Dr Sulaiti said,”I am pleased to announce that the memorandum of understanding between the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) and Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar will play a vital role in common segments such as education, culture, creativity and innovative arts through linking the university with the ongoing community activities.”

“The cooperation will entail aspects in the fields of scientific research, strategic approaches and studies in accordance with the necessities of the Cultural Village. Internship opportunities will be provided to CMU-Q students. Furthermore, it will provide cooperation in the fields of education and training programmes for departments, executives and leaders,” he continued.

“There will also be exchange of experiences in the fields of information system, computer science, business administration, public policies and law, arts and culture. Besides, we will engage in collective cooperation to organise workshops, press conferences and seminars while encouraging students to volunteer in events held at the Cultural Village Foundation- Katara,” he added.

On his part, Dr Baybars said,”When Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar came to Doha in 2004, we made a commitment to help advance the goals and vision of Qatar Foundation and Qatar. It is my pleasure to sign this agreement with Katara Cultural Village today. Katara, like Education City, exemplifies Qatar’s vision of promoting knowledge through the arts, education and technology.”
