CMU-Q team wins bronze medal at Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship

A team from Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) placed tenth at the 2024 Africa and Arab Collegiate Programming Championship (ACPC), earning a bronze medal for Qatar at the regional competition. All of the university-level teams from Qatar were from CMU-Q.

CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.

The bronze medal-winning team was composed of three computer science students: senior student Thang Bui-Nguyen, sophomore George Chkhaidze, and first-year Dilshodbek Khujaev. At the qualifying QCPC national competition, hosted by CMU-Q, the team took the top spot after solving an impressive 11 out of 13 problems.

These are the highest results for a team representing Qatar at the regional competition. The team has qualified for the International Collegiate Programming Contest that draws the most talented programmers from around the world. This is only the second time Qatar will be represented at ICPC.

CMU-Q computer science students are taking the same top-ranked undergraduate program that is taught at Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science. CMU-Q students complete identical degree requirements and their degrees are conferred from the Pittsburgh campus.
