CMU-Q showcases Alice Middle East at Darb Al-Saai

To celebrate Qatar National Day, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) hosted an activity area featuring Alice Middle East at Darb Al-Saai. In collaboration with Qatar Foundation, CMU-Q featured four interactive stations showcasing elements of Alice Middle East.

Alice Middle East is a 3-D interactive educational animation software designed to help students learn the basics of computer programming. Currently being introduced into the computing curriculum across government schools in Qatar, Alice Middle East helps students learn how to create virtual worlds through logical thinking and problem solving techniques.

“Most of the children that we meet have never heard of coding but by the time they finish interacting with Alice, they are able to understand how technology works,” said Huda Gedawy, research associate in computer science and the curriculum developer for Alice Middle East.

Alice Middle East can be found at the Carnegie Mellon Qatar activity area in the Qatar Foundation tent. Darb Al-Saai is open from Sunday to Thursday 8:00 a.m. to noon and 4:00 to 10:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 4:00 to 11:00 p.m. The Qatar Foundation tent is located near Gate 3.
