CMU-Q faculty member offers career insights at Royal Thai Embassy in Doha

Savanid (Nui) Vatanasakdakul shared her expertise with Thai students living in Qatar as part of an education counseling program at the Royal Thai Embassy in Doha. Vatanasakdakul is an associate teaching professor of information systems at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university.

The program is organized by the embassy to help Thai secondary and university students learn about their career options and the skills they will need to succeed. As an invited speaker, Vatanasakdakul delivered a session on career guidance and innovative skill development in a multicultural society.

Originally from Bangkok, Vatanasakdakul has been part of the faculty at Carnegie Mellon’s Qatar campus since 2017. During that time, she has made efforts in both Qatar and Thailand to grow and develop the field of information systems.

“The field is relatively new, and professionals from around the world benefit when we work together and learn from one another,” said Vatanasakdakul. The president-elect of the Qatar chapter of the Association of Information Systems, she was also instrumental in establishing a new Thailand AIS chapter.

“It was a pleasure to meet the Thai students who are studying in Qatar, and I encourage and inspire them to build careers where they can also serve as a bridge between cultures and countries.”

CMU-Q first offered the undergraduate degree program in information systems in 2008, with just six students in the first class. In the 2021-22 academic year, there were 125 students studying information systems at CMU-Q.
