DOHA, QATAR – Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) launched its new Al Rawi Initiative with a thoughtful discussion with His Excellency Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al-Thani about his book, Qatar Through My Eyes. The book is an important work for Qatar, capturing the country’s past through personal accounts, rare photographs, and a detailed historical narrative.
The discussion was the first event in a new series at CMU-Q that celebrates Arabic literature and invites the CMU-Q community to explore the works of local authors. The Al Rawi Initiative was organized by CMU-Q’s lecturer in Arabic Studies, Ezzohra Moufid, and includes an Arabic language speaker series and reading challenge.
“We hope to inspire an extraordinary dialogue between Arabic writers and our students,” said Moufid, who also led the discussion with H.E. Sheikh Faisal. “The Al Rawi Initiative celebrates Arabic literature, and provides a thoughtful way for students to connect with their language, culture, and identity.”
H.E. Sheikh Faisal has a deep, long-standing friendship with CMU-Q, serving for years on the university’s Joint Advisory Board. For CMU-Q’s 10-year anniversary, H.E. Sheikh Faisal hosted a remarkable exhibition of Qatari heritage at the university, showcasing the art, history, and culture of Qatar.
