CMU-Q alumna publishes honors thesis in leading research journal

digital-accessibility

A research paper based on the senior honors thesis of CMU-Q alumna Sara Al-Emadi has been published in the journal Universal Access in the Information Society (UAIS). The study, titled “Digital accessibility and equity: the need for stronger regulations and the imperative of innovation,” was co-authored with faculty advisor Divakaran Liginlal, teaching professor of information systems. Al-Emadi graduated in 2023 with a bachelor of science degree in information systems.

The research examines the role of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in shaping digital accessibility and equity across the globe. The paper underscores the transformative potential of inclusive technologies like AI-driven assistive tools and smart city infrastructure. UAIS, published by Springer, is a premier publication for Human-Computer Interaction and accessibility.
