DOHA, QATAR –Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar recently concluded its yearlong Executive and Professional Education program series with the largest number to date of more than 700 participants.
The Executive and Professional Education program is a series of courses during which Carnegie Mellon Qatar faculty share their world-class expertise in a variety of disciplines. The courses are offered to organizations that Carnegie Mellon Qatar has built strategic partnerships with.
Of the 755 participants this academic year, 415 were from the government sector and 340 were from the private sector. Participants from more than 30 organizations in Qatar attended this year.
The courses, held at the Carnegie Mellon Qatar campus, cover a variety of disciplines and aim to provide organizations with the necessary tools to better their respective business areas. As the first program of its kind within the universities at Education City, participants are able to pursue courses within faculty areas of expertise.
This year, areas of focus included quality, innovation, service and leadership; decision-making in organizations; e-business strategies; business strategy and tactics; design for management and organizational change; data-driven computer security; informing business decisions through market research; and cloud computing.
Led by Thomas Emerson, distinguished career professor of entrepreneurship and director of executive and professional education and Benjamin Collier, assistant teaching professor of organizational behavior and co-director of executive and professional education, the program continues to grow, ensuring that topics accurately reflect local business trends and objectives.
Collier said: “The executive programs combine real world experience, case situations and research-based findings to help participants get a fresh perspective on leadership. The material is delivered in such a way that participants can implement what they have learned, offering tangible benefits to these organizations.”
Following its inauguration in 2012, the Executive and Professional Education program has been a priority for the Qatar campus to help professionals hone their leadership skills and enhance the university’s ties with key entities in Qatar.
Fadhel Al-Annan, assistant dean for government and corporate affairs, said: “Executive education courses provided by Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar to its strategic partners represent an important contribution by the university to the national capacity-building efforts, in line with Qatar's National Vision 2030 (QNV2030) and its National Development Strategy (NDS) 2012 – 2016.”
Carnegie Mellon Qatar continues to develop existing strategic partnerships through Memoranda of Understandings (MoU’s) with key organizations in Qatar across various industries such as research and development, strategic studies and community development.
Carnegie Mellon Qatar recently signed MoU’s with Qatar Stock Exchange, Maersk Oil Qatar, Qatar First Bank and KPMG. These partnerships result in opportunities for current students and engagement for the organizations with the higher education community.
