New CMU-Q alum presents genomic data platform at Sidra forum

Abrar Abir, a computer science graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, is part of a team that developed a unified genomic data platform at Sidra Medicine. Developed within Sidra Medicine’s Research-Genomic Data Science Core, the web application integrates real-time sample tracking, quality control assessment, and genomic data exploration. The platform combines quality oversight and insight-driven data exploration to streamline the management of large-scale sequencing data across research and clinical settings. Abir presented this research at the Sidra Annual Research Forum 2026. 

Abir completed his studies in the Fall 2025 semester, and will receive his diploma when the Class of 2026 graduates in May. As a student, Abir was part of the award-winning research team that developed a method to program robots to clean and monitor solar panels in a desert environment.
