Korean Culture Club hosts Running Man competition

The Korean Culture Club hosted 40 students for CMU-Q’s first Running Man competition. Inspired by the Running Man game show, the event was a celebration of Korean culture.

CMU-Q students Lina Taha and Maha Al-Hemaidi created the Korean Culture Club to share their passion for Korean music, food, television and other cultural touchstones. Although neither are of Korean descent, they have been captivated by the quality of Korean entertainment since high school.

“Korean television dramas are so good, especially the cliffhangers,” said Al-Hemaidi, who is president of the club. “You don’t need to be from Korea, or know anything about Korea, to enjoy them.”

The competition was an homage to the zany game show, Running Man, a favorite among lovers of Korean culture. A highlight of the event was the “escape room” trivia challenge in which players solved questions related to Korean culture. Representatives from the Korean embassy attended the event, as did a selection of Korean vendors.

The club has hosted two other large events this year, including a K-Pop karaoke night and a movie night featuring the Korean zombie film, Train to Busan.
