DPS Modern Indian School wins Carnegie Mellon Qatar Pi Day 2023

Teams from DPS Modern Indian School won first and second place at the Pi Day Mathematics Competition final at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q). Teams from DPS Monarch International School and Qatar International School rounded out the top four.

CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.

The winning team included students Himanshu Gupta, Azhar Jaleel Muhammed, Kamali Ramesh, and Ritvik Vardhan Reddy Kanjula. The team mentor was Umashankar Sambara.

The Pi Day Mathematics Competition is organized by the mathematics faculty at CMU-Q to inspire secondary students to explore math. The competition consists of two rounds: there were 126 teams who participated in this year’s preliminary round, with four advancing to the final round.

The final round took place the week of March 14 (3/14), which is affectionately known as Pi Day in math circles. Pi represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, an irrational number rounded to 3.14. Pi Day is embraced by mathematicians and educators worldwide as an opportunity to celebrate and encourage learning in mathematics.
