DOHA, QATAR – Carnegie Mellon University was ranked No. 20 on Thomson Reuters’ World University Rankings 2010 by Times Higher Education (THE), one of the most reputable rankings of graduate and undergraduate programs. In addition to this announcement THE also released the first of six subject rankings: Engineering and Technology. Carnegie Mellon University was ranked No. 11 among the top 50 engineering and technology universities around the world. In the coming weeks THE will also release the rankings in Life Sciences, Clinical, Pre-clinical, & Health, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts & Humanities.

Close to 5,000 employers and over 15,000 academics and university administrators from around the world offered their opinion on the top universities and the top programs. The results of the rankings take into consideration indicators that capture the complexity of higher education institutions from teaching to innovation to research. The universities were judged on their staffing levels, research citations, and international activity. This year’s academic survey is the largest done since THE’s initial survey done in 2004. Carnegie Mellon was joined by 12 other United States universities in the top 20, as well as four UK universities and one from Switzerland, Australia, and Germany.
