At Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, our experts explore how to bridge theory with the realities of the modern classroom. As a small community with a focus on undergraduate education, our campus serves as a dynamic testing ground for pedagogical innovation, integrating emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and experiential learning directly into our curriculum.

We are fortunate to have tremendous resources, including CMU’s Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence and Educational Innovation, the global educational initiatives within Qatar Foundation and the faculty community of educators within Education City. In this setting, our faculty members work across disciplines, collaboratively and purposefully, to develop new approaches that will enrich the learning experience.

CMU-Q research on educational innovation

Educational innovation is part of the fabric of CMU-Q, permeating nearly every discipline we teach. Some of the current educational innovation-related projects intersect with artificial intelligence and language technology, improving how Arabic essays are automatically evaluated, how chatbots can assist in academic advising, and how generative AI can serve as a scaffolded study partner. Faculty members have also delved into diverse pedagogical and curriculum questions, including how to enhance argumentative writing skills, integrate active learning methodologies like gamified toolkits, and create inclusive classroom environments that increase student agency and address diverse learning needs.
