Facebook’s Serkan Piantino coming to CMU-Q

Interactive talk about the future of computing

DOHA, QATAR: Carnegie Mellon in Qatar (CMU-Q) welcomes Serkan Piantino, founder and site director of Facebook’s New York office, for a roundtable discussion on the future of computing on October 25 at noon.

Piantino is a Carnegie Mellon University alumnus who joined Facebook in 2007. As director of engineering in Facebook’s artificial intelligence research lab, he played a key role in developing vital features like Timeline and Newsfeed.

“We are very pleased that Mr. Piantino will be sharing his insights and experience at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar,” said Ilker Baybars. “As a computer science alumnus who works on the cutting edge of social media development, his perspective is particularly important for Carnegie Mellon students and faculty, as well as leaders in government and industry in Qatar.”

The talk will be moderated by Khaled Harras, associate teaching professor of computer science and director of the computer science program at the Qatar campus. A question and answer session will follow the discussion. This is a public event, and members of the community are welcome to attend.
