Digital attitudes of Arab youth to be revealed as part of Dean’s Lecture Series at Carnegie Mellon Qatar

His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo, to Present Original Research Study on Critical Issues

DOHA, QATAR- The findings of a new survey documenting the digital attitudes and aspirations of youth in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region are to be presented publicly for the first time on Monday, February 10 as part of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar Dean’s Lecture Series.

The study, titled ‘New Horizons: Young, Arab and Connected’, details the conclusions of a survey conducted with over 10,500 young adults across 17 countries in the region on the evolution of digital technology and connectivity in the lives of youth.

The survey was commissioned by Ooredoo, and key findings will be presented by His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Bin Saud Al Thani, Chairman of Ooredoo, at the event.

His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah said: “Ooredoo launched this major regional study because we believe it is essential that businesses connect with the aspirations of young people today. It is one of the most substantial investigations undertaken in the region, conducted at a critical time of change and upheaval. It is fitting that we will present our findings for the first time at Carnegie Mellon Qatar, discussing the results with students and future leaders.”

Among other findings, the report found that eight out of 10 respondents are optimistic about their prospects in the coming year, although 45 percent of employed young people are not doing the work they would like to do.

"Understanding current trends in technology is integral to our students and faculty, who use this type of information as they develop new technologies for Qatar and the region," said Ilker Baybars, Dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.

The Dean’s Lecture Series is the principal forum for eminent industry practitioners and government officials to bring their knowledge and perspectives to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, and to broaden students’ understanding of important issues. Other notable speakers have included Sheikh Hamad Bin Jabor Bin Jassim Al-Thani, President of the Qatar Statistics Authority and Hassan Al-Thawadi, Secretary General of the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee.

The talk is open to the public and takes place between 12-1p.m. at Carnegie Mellon Qatar, in the Assembly Hall Moot Board Room (Room 1131). A question and answer session will follow the presentation, after which a light lunch will be served.
