Cecile Le Roux receives 2021 Meritorious Teaching Award
Cecile Le Roux, assistant teaching professor of organization and behavior at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university, received the Meritorious Teaching Award at the virtual celebration for the Class of 2021.
Le Roux has been a member of the business administration faculty at CMU-Q since 2018.
Each year, the graduating class nominates faculty members for the award, and the winner is selected by a faculty committee that includes past recipients.
Le Roux was very touched by the award, and especially the nomination: “When you look at the description of the award, it mentions having demonstrated ‘devotion and effectiveness.’ I find it very meaningful that the students think of me in that way.”
For Le Roux, teaching is about connecting with the students and empowering them. “I want them to feel like they can approach me. If they make a mistake, I don’t just say it’s wrong, I encourage them to look at the question differently, to find a way to contextualize it so they can change their approach.”
Le Roux, who has expertise in the area of organizational psychology, teaches courses at CMU-Q in the areas of organizational behavior and leadership and organizational effectiveness.
As a recipient of the Meritorious Teaching Award, Le Roux will join with past winners to help organize this year’s Faculty Majlis. The Faculty Majlis was created in the summer of 2020 as a venue for faculty to share approaches to remote teaching. Over the year, the scope of the Faculty Majlis expanded to include broader topics on pedagogy and best practices.
“We are so blessed at CMU-Q with amazing colleagues who have a strong teaching focus and who want to continue to grow and teach even more effectively.”
