Summer College Preview Program

If you show strong academic potential and aspire to attend an elite university such as Carnegie Mellon, the Summer College Preview Program (SCPP) is a wonderful first step in achieving your goals. SCPP is an opportunity for students residing in Qatar to experience the excitement of campus life and the challenges of an elite college like CMU-Q.

If you are accepted, make the most of the experience. If you’re like most students who participate, you’ll return to high school energized and confident in your ability to work hard to be accepted at the university of your choice.

Who

If you are currently in year 10 (sophomore) or year 11 (junior) and you live in Qatar, we invite you to apply.The curriculum is designed for students who are in these grade levels. Any applicants that are not in this grade level will not be considered.

What

The SCPP is an opportunity for students in Qatar to test their creativity, hard work, and teamwork skills within a community of other bright young scholars. You will work hard, but you will also learn about different career paths, experience the excitement of campus life and challenge yourself to meet the high standards of Carnegie Mellon University.

We hold SCPP for three weeks during the summer. Watch this page for dates and registration information.

Summer College Preview Program takes place at the CMU-Q building in Education City.

How to Apply to SCPP

Read this information before you start your application. There are required essays that you should write before
you go to the application page.

Applications will open in Spring 2025

Submit any standardized test scores

Submit any standardized test scores – your most recent TOEFL, IELTS, PSAT, SAT Reasoning Test, PLAN or ACT with Writing standardized test results, if you have taken them.

Upload your secondary school transcripts

Upload your secondary school transcripts that include a complete listing of your classes and grades.

  • If you are in Grade 10, submit transcripts for Grade 9 (end of year) and Grade 10 (mid year).
  • If you are in Grade 11, submit transcripts for Grade 9 (end of year), Grade 10 (end of year), and Grade 11 (mid year).
Submit essays on the following two questions.

Submit essays on the following two questions. We suggest that you do these in a Word document before you begin the application and then cut and paste into the form. Each essay should be in English, and between  300-500 words. Your application will not be accepted without the essays.

  • Essay 1: Why are you applying to the Summer College Preview Program and what do you hope to achieve through your enrollment?
  • Essay 2: What universities are you interested in applying to, what would you like to major in and why?

Only complete applications will be considered for the program. Once we review your application, we will send out a notification letter.
