Mellon College of Science recognizes CMU-Q grad with Elizabeth W. Jones Award  

CMUQ Biological Sciences graduate Khalid Al Abdulla

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) Biological Sciences graduate Khalid Al Abdulla received the Elizabeth W. Jones Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. Granted by the Department of Biological Sciences at CMU’s Mellon College of Science, the award honors a graduating senior who has demonstrated sustained excellence in research. CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.

Al Abdulla, who minored in Neuroscience, earned the honor through his research investigating aggressive triple-negative breast cancer. Combining laboratory work with computational methods, his project identified novel biological mechanisms to help restrict tumor progression. Al Abdulla earned first place in the Extensive Research category at the Meeting of the Minds 2026 symposium and represented Qatar as the sole undergraduate presenter at the International Agency for Research on Cancer conference in France.
