On May 1, 2017, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar will celebrate its tenth graduation as 109 young men and women receive their Carnegie Mellon diplomas from four different programs:
- Biological Sciences: 19
- Business Administration: 41
- Computer Science: 16
- Information Systems: 33
This is the largest graduating class in CMU-Q’s history.
Academic excellence
During their studies, 70% of graduates completed a minor. CMU-Q recognized 49% of the class for University Honors, which means students earned a 3.5 cumulative QPA after seven semesters of studies. The class has completed 195 research projects and 14 students earned College Honors by meeting their college’s thesis requirements.
Global citizens
The members of the graduating class represent 21 nationalities, with 44% Qatari nationals. They speak a total of 13 languages, with nearly 40% of the class speaking three or more. In the Class of 2017, 58% of graduates have studied abroad.
Leadership
The Class of 2017 has compiled more than 58,000 hours of work experience, with 72% of the class completing at least one internship. More than 64% have been involved in community outreach, and 42% have started or led a student club. Nearly 30% have represented CMU-Q in academic competitions over the course of their degree.
Alumni
The Class of 2017 brings the total number of CMU-Q alumni to 679. There are more than 100,000 Carnegie Mellon alumni worldwide.
