CMU-Q students apply learning and knowledge through internship experiences

DOHA, QATAR: Students at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) shared their work experiences over the summer at the Internship Showcase 2019. The event brought together students from all years and programs of study to learn how internships can help put knowledge and learning into practice.

Four students presented their summer work experiences, and all of them noted how interning helped to solidify the concepts they learned in the classroom.

Sondoss Hassan, a biological sciences student, was a research intern at the Equine Veterinary Medical Center. Fahad Bahzad, a business administration student, worked as a summer associate at Boston Consulting Group. Computer Science student Dorde Popovic interned as a software engineer at fintech firm Basiq. Imane Bendou from information systems was an intern for support services in contract management and procurement at Stantec UK Limited.

Faten El Ayache, senior employer development and career consultant at CMU-Q, highlighted the importance of internships for students as they explore career paths.

“Internships provide students with experience, skills and knowledge, allowing them to know more about their passions and what career path they want to follow after graduating,” she noted.

Several of the organizations who employed CMU-Q interns over the summer attended the event to network with CMU-Q students. The employers included Boston Consulting Group, Ebutler, Equine Veterinary Medical Center, General Electric, Hilti, National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR), Qatar Central Bank, Siemens, Seib Insurance and Reinsurance and Teach for Qatar.

The Internship Showcase is organized by the Career Development Office at CMU-Q, which runs a slate of events and sessions throughout the year to bring together students and potential employers.
