CMU-Q alumna Shaden Shaar and her co-authors received Honorary Mention, Best Demo Paper, at the virtual conference for the Association for Computational Linguistics. The team built the Propaganda Persuasion Techniques Analyzer (Prta), a system that supports the analysis of rhetorical and psychological propaganda techniques in the news.

Shaar graduated from CMU-Q in 2019 with a degree in computer science. She now works with the Arabic Language Technologies team at Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI).

Shaar was also the first author on a second research paper, titled “That is a known lie: Detecting previously fact-checked claims,” that was accepted for the conference.
