CMU-Q senior represents Qatar at international cancer research conference in France

Khalid Al Abdulla a senior biological sciences student at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar

DOHA, Qatar – Khalid Al Abdulla, a senior biological sciences student at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), traveled to Lyon, France, to present his breast cancer research.

Al Abdulla attended the conference on cancer research for cancer prevention that was co-organized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). His work focuses on a specific protein in breast cancer cells. Al Abdulla found that when the protein is selectively downregulated, there is a significant reduction in cancer cell growth, a finding that holds promise for future prevention and treatment strategies.

Al Abdulla was the only undergraduate student presenting research at the conference. His faculty advisor is Ihab Younis, teaching professor and area head of Biological Sciences at CMU-Q.
