Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) is delivering a series of specialized Community Partner Workshops focused on artificial intelligence. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is pleased to announce a series of Community Partner Workshops that explore how artificial intelligence is transforming the way we solve problems, do work and conduct business. CMU-Q is a Qatar Foundation partner university.
The workshops are led by faculty members from both the Qatar and Pittsburgh campuses of Carnegie Mellon University. They are designed exclusively for community partners of CMU-Q, including professionals in Qatar’s government, corporate and research sectors.
Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q and an expert in the area of operations research, underscores the importance of understanding the opportunities and challenges of AI.
“Artificial intelligence applications are incredibly powerful tools, and they are having a profound impact on daily life,” he said. “Our faculty members, both from this campus and those visiting from the U.S. campus, have insights that can help guide professionals in Qatar to use AI responsibly and effectively.”
The series covers a wide range of AI topics relevant to today’s professionals. CMU-Q’s Iman Adeinat and Reya Saliba offer sector-specific sessions for those in logistics and government ministries, respectively. Mohammad Hammoud delivers a non-technical workshop on AI concepts, applications, and ethics. Two workshops, led by Carnegie Mellon Pittsburgh’s Raja Sooriamurthi and CMU-Q’s Nui Vatanasakdakul, focus on the human implications of AI. CMU-Q’s Gianni Di Caro will take a more technical approach, introducing participants to his QNRF-funded research that integrates AI-based imaging, robotics, and simulation to address challenges in precision agriculture.
CMU-Q has a robust network of community partners who share the university’s vision of the transformative impact of education. These partnerships increase opportunities for CMU-Q students and graduates and provide work experiences to deepen their understanding of real world challenges. In return, CMU-Q provides targeted professional development workshops to build local capacity and foster innovation. This initiative is a cornerstone of CMU-Q’s commitment to contribute to the development of a vibrant, knowledge-based economy.
Carnegie Mellon is a global leader in AI education, innovation and research, and students in all programs at CMU-Q learn to navigate in an AI-driven world. This year, CMU-Q announced a new Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence (BSAI) program. The Carnegie Mellon BSAI was the first program of its kind in the United States when it was introduced in 2018, and it is now the first undergraduate artificial intelligence degree offered in Qatar.
