Alumni serve as guides and mentors to CMU-Q students

Twelve CMU-Q alumni returned to the university to share their work experiences with current students. The event, called the Dinner with Twelve Tartans, provided students with the opportunity to ask questions and seek mentorship from graduates who are building their careers within Doha.

The returning Tartans represented each of the four major programs: Aya Abdelaal and Rula Al Baghdadi completed the Biological Sciences Program; Layal Alami, Mohammed Al Hor and Hira Ahmed are graduates from the Business Administration Program; Yusuf Musleh, Rukhsar Neyaz, and Salma Moustapha are from the Computer Science Program; and Umair Ahmed, Eman Al Kuwari, Zehni Khairullah, and Haya Thowfeek are Information Systems Program alumni.

Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q, commented: “Our alumni play a critical role in career development for current students. Over the years, many graduates have become mentors for our students as they look ahead to their own lives after graduation. We are proud to see so many alumni contributing to the CMU-Q community and offering guidance and advice to students.”

Recently, this mentorship role extended to CMU-Q’s Qatar Foundation partners at the Education City-wide workshop event, “Prepare for your future career.” Organized by HBKU and in collaboration with CMU-Q, Northwestern University in Qatar, and the Education City branch campuses, the event featured workshops, panel discussions and clinics for resumes and mock interviews.

CMU-Q alumni Abdulla AlKhenji and Narcis Jafarian, as well as alumni from Georgetown University in Qatar, Northwestern University in Qatar, and Texas A&M University at Qatar, shared their daily routines in their current careers, and answered questions from students in the audience.

More than 90 students attended the “Prepare for your future career” event.
