Qatar Foundation Education Week will be taking place from February 18-22, 2018. Innovative teaching methods from each university are showcased across Education City.  Each university will host professors from different universities. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar will be hosting Northwestern University in Qatar and Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar on February 20, 2018.

Sunday, February 18

Location : Georgetown University in Qatar

 Time: 12:50 p.m. – 1:50 p.m. 

Weill Cornell Medicine- Qatar : Rodney Sharkey  “From Biology to Engineering to Politics: Discovering your Voice”

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar: John O’Brien “Technology in the Classroom:  An Active Learning Approach”

 

Monday, February 19

Location :Texas A&M University at Qatar   

Time : 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Barbara Oakley, Professor of Engineering at Oakland University and  bestselling author of A Mind for Numbers

 

Tuesday, February 20: 

Location: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar 

Time : 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. 

Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar : Byrad Yyelland, Interim Director of Liberal Arts and Science; Peter Martin, Interim Chair of Graphic Design; Rab McClure, Director of MFA in Design.

Northwestern University in Qatar: Scott Curtis “The Pedagogical Value of an Image”

 

Wednesday, February 21: 

Location: Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar

Time : 12:45 p.m.– 1:45 p.m.

Texas A&M University at Qatar: Dr. Konstantinos Kakosimos “EduART – Educational Augmented Reality Tools for the Enhancement of the Teaching and Learning Experience”

Georgetown University in Qatar :  Sonia Alonso : “Thinking like a scholar: problem-based learning of social science  research practices”;  Max Oitdman : “Learning with Databases in the Humanities: Using Evernote in the Classroom”

 

Thursday, February 22:

Location: Northwestern University in Qatar

Time : 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

A plenary discussion for all speakers will be held as a conclusion to QF Education Week.
