Health and Wellness Fair brings together Education City community

Event that started at CMU-Q in 2015 has grown to include all of Education City partners

This year’s Education City Health and Wellness Fair was the largest since the fair began in 2015, with 26 vendors promoting four main areas of wellbeing. For Amie Rollins, however, the most important reason for success was the sheer number of people from across Education City who attended.

“We moved the fair to the Education City Student Center last year so everyone in our community could have easier access. This year, we focused on spreading the word, and we had people from across Education City come to learn about the health resources we have available in Qatar,” said Rollins, who is Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar’s director of health and wellness. Rollins is a founding organizer of the Health and Wellness Fair, which for the first two years was held in the CMU-Q building.

“The first year, we collaborated with Qatar Foundation,” she said. “Since Northwestern University in Qatar was in our building at that time, they contacted me so they could join in for the 2016 fair. We opened it up to everyone in Education City, and each year it has changed a little to accommodate more people from all of the partner universities.”

Rollins and her counterparts in each of the Education City partner universities have formed the Health Advisory Board that meets each month at CMU-Q. The board’s main goal is to collaborate to inform, promote and encourage health and wellness throughout Education City.

The next Education City-wide health and wellness event is the Breast Cancer Awareness Walk, which will take place on October 27 at 8:00 a.m. in Oxygen Park. Partner universities have joined with Qatar Foundation and the Qatar Cancer Society to promote awareness of breast cancer and prevention.

“Everyone in the Education City community is welcome,” said Rollins. “This is a fun, family event that promotes positivity, prevention, and leading an active lifestyle. We hope to see everyone there!”
