A step forward: Qatar elections and the role of women in the Shura Council

In November 2020, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani announced that Shura Council elections would be taking place for the first time in 2021 and the date was subsequently set to be October 2, 2021. In the list of candidates announced, of the 294 candidates representing different parts of the country, 29 were women. Voters will elect 30 members of the 45-seat council, while His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani will appoint the remaining 15 members.
