Welcome Pittsburgh IMPAQT students!

Ten students from CMU Pittsburgh arrived Saturday as part of the IMPAQT program. The students will spend the week learning about Qatar and visiting Doha landmarks like Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art and the Al Faisal Museum.

The CMU students will also attend classes and events that represent the unique culture and scholarship of the Qatar campus. Zeinab Ibrahim, teaching professor of Arabic studies, will deliver a lecture on Arabic business and culture, while Silvia Pessoa, associate teaching professor of English, will introduce the Pittsburgh contingent to Language Bridges, a program where CMU-Q students provide English classes to service workers.

This is the second half of the annual IMPAQT program, which began last week with thirteen CMU-Q students traveling to Pittsburgh.

“The IMPAQT program is a wonderful opportunity for the students. We want the groups to explore their cultural differences, but also to see that that Carnegie Mellon students share an experience, no matter where their campus is located,” said Gloria Khoury, assistant dean for student affairs at CMU-Q.

IMPAQT stands for Initiating Meaningful Pittsburgh and Qatar Ties, and it is an effort to strengthen knowledge and understanding between the two Carnegie Mellon campuses.
