CMU-Q students win QITCOM CodeCamp prize for digital transformation

A team of CMU-Q students took top prize in the digital transformation category at QITCOM CodeCamp, a programming competition for students and industry professionals. The team is comprised of computer science sophomores Shobiitaa Krishna, Samiha Sadeka, and Deeksha Singh, as well as information systems senior Ameera Tag.

In the initial programming portion of the competition, the students addressed the challenge of vehicle traffic and busy shopping malls in Qatar. Their app, called Viable, uses public data from Google and Facebook to calculate the current and future congestion rates.

Viable was among 12 projects that were shortlisted and invited to pitch at the competition final. The second presentation on March 8 was a success, and the team won in their category.

The team was awarded 75,000 QAR to continue to develop Viable, and the project will be incubated under Qatar’s Digital Incubation Center. Viable has also been shortlisted for the Microsoft Imagine Cup Qatar competition taking place later this month.
