QCS to launch mobile app developed by CMU-Q students

CMU-Q News editor’s note: Four CMU-Q students in the Information Systems Program designed QCS Application as their junior project. These students are Latifa Al-Thani, Noor Al-Athba Al-Marri, Manisha Dareddy and Avni Pherwani.

Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) is preparing to launch its first application ‘QCS Application’ on smartphones soon.

The application aims to raise awareness of cancer, prevention methods and promote the culture of early detection, in collaboration with students from Carnegie Mellon University.

The application can be downloaded through the Play Store and the Apple Store, and includes several sections, the first one is ‘health education’, which contains information about cancer, its symptoms, risk factors, prevention methods, treatment and early detection, as well as all information about each type of cancer, especially the most prevalent in Qatar.

The second section is ‘Patient Services’, which helps patients to receive psychological and physical support easily by uploading all the necessary documents to get financial support without having to go to the headquarters of the Society or its branch at the National Canter for Cancer care and Research.

The third section’ verifies information, presents information about the charity such as establishment, vision, mission, goals, etc and users can also view all events and campaigns, whether previous or future, and a brief profile of each through window ‘Campaigns’.

The application also contains a ‘Support Us’ showing how to donate, collection tables and Doha map. The sixth and final window ‘ask us’ is designed to answer questions and queries of users.

QCS Chairman Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor al Thani said, QCS Application aims to achieve a set of objectives, the most important is to spread awareness of cancer, prevention methods, early dictation, contribute to the treatment of patients, defining the role of society, stressing that the application will represent a new qualitative leap in the work of the charity.

The QCS application comes in the context of the growth of the smart phone applications sector and the transformation from tools of entertainment to services that organisations can’t work in isolation of, as it saves time and effort, reaches more users, increases efficiency, transparency and productivity, The importance of these applications is growing as the number of smartphone users around the world increases, he added.
