DOHA, QATAR – Forty-nine organizations representing a broad range of industries set up stands, distributed informational brochures and spoke with students about internships and job positions at the Fourth Annual Professional Day last week. Professional Day is a career and networking fair which provides a unique opportunity for students and employers to meet and explore employment possibilities. The event brings together private and public companies in Qatar who are looking to hire bright, talented students.
“Our friends from industry are truly our partners: we greatly appreciate the role they play in the professional growth of our students through internships and all their other activities on our campus. In return, we listen carefully to our partners' needs as we educate our students. The result of this partnership shows up in our students and alumni: young men and women who are intelligent, hard working, and well prepared for life and careers,” said Chuck Thorpe, Dean of Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
“We have been participating in Professional Day for several years now. And we have been hiring numerous Carnegie Mellon Qatar graduates. Although our core function is in the engineering field, we find great value in hiring graduates from Carnegie Mellon who are experts in computer science, information systems and business administration, who can contribute to Qatar Petroleum’s goals and vision for Qatar,” said Mohamed Abdulla Al-Jamal, Overseas Scholarships Supervisor at Qatar Petroleum.
More than 90% of the graduates from Carnegie Mellon Qatar are either in the workforce or studying at prestigious graduate schools in the UK or the US. The majority of graduates are working in positions in Doha with some taking positions in Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and the United States. More than 80% of the graduates at Carnegie Mellon Qatar completed at least one internship before graduation, and some students have taken on multiple internships.
