CMU-Q’s Dudley Reynolds kicks off inaugural English Language Centre symposium

Dudley Reynolds was the keynote speaker at the Community College of Qatar’s (CCQ) first annual English Language Centre (ELC) symposium. The symposium focused on bridging the divide between secondary and post-secondary education in teaching English and academic skills.

The symposium began with Reynolds’ plenary session on building a coherent system for English language education. During the discussion, Reynolds outlined significant disjunctions that lead students to struggle academically, and how a system-wide perspective of language education can help cushion the transition as students move into post-secondary studies.

Reynolds is a teaching professor of English at CMU-Q and the former president of TESOL International Association, the world’s largest professional association for teachers who support multilingualism through English language learning. He is currently authoring Language Policy in Globalized Contexts, a report for the 2019 WISE summit in Doha. The report will challenge education systems to examine how they support their communities’ language resources.
