CMU-Q celebrates Qatar National Sport Day

In honor of Qatar’s National Sport Day, Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) held its annual football match in Education City. A student team faced off against a team of faculty, staff, and alumni, with the students emerging victorious in a tightly fought battle. The event drew many members of the CMU-Q community to cheer the teams on.

Leading up to the match, CMU-Q recognized more than 40 student athletes for their contributions to university teams at a special dinner. CMU-Q had a stellar year in the area of athletics, with both male and female students competing in football, basketball and volleyball. The men’s basketball team, which included students from both CMU-Q and Northwestern University in Qatar, placed second in the HBKU Basketball League. The men’s football team placed third in the Qatar Foundation University League. CMU-Q also has a student-led cricket team, fitness club and equestrian club.

“Sport is an important part of university life. It brings the community together, and I am very pleased that we have so many students participating, and many others cheering them on,” said Michael Trick, dean of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
