Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) P.Q.S.C., Qatar’s next generation bank, has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) regarding the two parties’ joint cooperation in areas of education, scientific research, strategic studies and community development.

The agreement includes the provision of scholarships and internships to CMU-Q students, as well as offering training programs and sessions to the concerned departments and executive leadership at al khaliji.

Commenting on the agreement, Mr. Fahad Abdulla Al Khalifa, Group Chief Executive Officer at al khaliji, said:

“al khaliji and CMU-Q both recognize the instrumental role played by educational institutions in creating a skilled and capable human capital base in individual capacities and organizations as well as on a national level, towards serving the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its emphasis on human development. This is why at al khaliji, we are looking forward to work closely with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and share our professional expertise in a goal-driven and productive context that not only leads to raising the bar of performance and the standards of service at al khaliji to continuously exceed clients’ expectations, but also invite CMU-Q students to gain invaluable skills as al khaliji interns and trainees, as well as volunteering in the Bank’s Community events and initiatives. This further dovetails with the Bank’s CSR program and is part of al khaliji’s ongoing efforts to serve the community in which it operates.”

Ilker Baybars, Dean and CEO of CMU-Q, said:

“Partnerships between education and industry are essential to building a knowledge-based economy, and I thank al khaliji for their vision and cooperation. Students and graduates from Carnegie Mellon are well-prepared to enter the workforce. This Memorandum of Understanding will offer them the opportunity to cement their practical skills, while introducing hard-working, talented young professionals to al khaliji.”

The two parties will be sharing professional expertise, scientists and researchers in Business Administration and Information Systems, as well as organizing joint specialized conferences, seminars and workshops, in addition to encouraging students to engage in volunteer work during al khaliji’s activities for community service in Qatar.

The joint agreement reaffirms al khaliji’s commitment to the professional development of the Bank’s staff towards the provision of an exceptional banking service to its clients, as well as honors its Social Responsibility towards the community, while advancing the Bank’s contributions to the realization of Qatar’s National Vision for the year 2030 and its aspirations of building a knowledge-based society.
