First-Year Convocation
First-Year Convocation is a long-standing university tradition that is held before the first day of classes of the fall semester. It is the official start of the academic year, and the welcoming of the incoming class to Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar.
Following Carnegie Mellon Qatar’s long-standing tradition, the Class of 2028 is presented with a tile engraved with their graduation year. The tile will be installed in the walkway of the CMU-Q building when the class graduates in 2028.
This year’s event will take place on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 at 5:00 p.m.

New Family Welcome
Parents and family members are invited to attend an online information session to learn more about Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar and what students can expect during the upcoming academic year. The New Family Welcome will take place Monday, August 19, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar, Education City.
The information session is only for parents and family members of incoming first-year students.
