Students gain insight into financial markets

In Gulf-Times, February 28, 2017

Al Khalij Commercial Bank (Al Khaliji) partnered with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q) for the second consecutive year to host its financial markets literacy and education workshop, Tajer.

The initiative, which targets secondary school students, is part of the bank’s recruitment programme and its continuous efforts to empower Qatari youth and develop their skills so that they can lead the country’s financial industry in the future, according to a
statement from Al Khaliji.

The day-long workshop offered students “comprehensive understanding and in-depth insight” about financial markets in Qatar. Through its intensive educational training, which combines case studies with on-the-ground applications, the workshop enables attendees to gain valuable knowledge and information about floor trading systems around the world, as well as introducing them to electronic markets by connecting them to cross-border networks, the statement notes.

Besides offering its attendees face time with faculty members and decision makers in Qatar’s financial industry, Tajer updates students on the latest changes in financial markets’ pricing and trading processes, and also provides them with an opportunity to discover several of Carnegie Mellon’s business administration programmes.

The workshop also serves as a platform for Qatari youth to explore future employment opportunities and career prospects at Al Khaliji, and primes them for being active players in the country’s finance and banking sectors.
