Best Buddies

Best Buddies is an international nonprofit organization started by Anthony Kennedy Shriver in 1989. The idea of Best Buddies is to start a chapter in high schools, colleges and cities that all run under a main oraganization in the country/state etc. We currently run a college chapter at Carnegie Mellon University Qatar.
Best Buddies CMUQ creates one-to-one friendships between students from CMUQ and students who have intellectual disabilities from the Shafallah centre. We base these friendship matches on hobbies, age, gender and character. Matched friends are expected to see each other twice a month and contact each other at least once a week to be considered a successful match.

Our Mission:To establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Our Vision: To put Best Buddies out of business.
Our Goals:By 2010, Best Buddies will continue to build on its successful volunteer base in all 50 States, further expand its accredited international programs to 50 countries and annually engage more than 500,000 people worldwide.
