Meeting of the Minds

Meeting of the Minds is part of Carnegie Mellon's Undergraduate Research Initiative, which encourages and supports undergraduates to engage in the type of research and innovation that at many institutions is the domain of faculty and graduate students. Many projects grow out of students' coursework in their major, while others typify Carnegie Mellon's emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration to solve real-world problems.

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar

In August 2004 Carnegie Mellon Qatar began offering undergraduate degrees in business administration and computer science. Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar delivers a Carnegie Mellon curriculum, maintaining our academic standards, values, and principles. Next year, we will unveil a state-of-the-art facility at Qatar's burgeoning Education City, with classrooms, computer labs and a spectacular indoor atrium. The facility will provide a stimulating atmosphere in a technologically advanced building, sparking the kind of academic excellence that is the hallmark of Carnegie Mellon students around the world. Education City, set amidst 2,500 acres, continues to add new academic and research buildings along with housing, shopping, sports and recreational facilities. Help Lead the Innovation Nation

Since its founding in 1900 by industrialist Andrew Carnegie, Carnegie Mellon University has been a visionary and pragmatic institution, adapting rapidly to change and connecting theoretical and applied science. Recognized globally for world-class arts and technology programs, and unmatched collaboration across disciplines, Carnegie Mellon invites breakthrough thinking. Our legacy of innovation includes the first broad application of computing in knowledge creation, led by Nobel laureate Herbert Simon's groundbreaking work in artificial intelligence and human-computer interaction. Today, that pioneering work supports research in diverse areas: decision-making science, public policy, robotics, cognitive tutors, autism, and biotechnology. Simon stands as one of 12 Carnegie Mellon faculty and alumni to be honored by the Nobel committee. Current breakthroughs can be found in such fields as green chemistry and design and human interaction advances led by the Project on People and Robots.
