Qatar Heritage Web site
From Alhannah
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar has officially launched a website dedicated to the heritage and culture of the state of Qatar. The website features detailed descriptions as well as photographs of 21 different cultural heritage sites including museums, forts, mosques, archaeological areas, traditional houses and souqs.
This website invites lifelong residents, newcomers and visitors to get out and explore the heritage and beauty of the country.
This website compiles all the information you need to visit various sites and attractions: their history, exact location and hours of operation. And the content is provided in a printable format so you can easily take it with you on your visit.
You will also find: • An interactive map of the State of Qatar • Downloadable maps for printing • GPS coordinates of each location • Links to Google Earth • An interactive model of a traditional Qatari mosque • Ready-to-use itineraries • Pictures of cultural sites • A complete and detailed history of Qatar

This project is groundbreaking in that it is the first one to involve computer science students from CMU-Q to develop the Web site, students from Virginia Commonwealth University to complete the graphic design work and Qatari officials to provide their expertise on the local heritage.
Carnegie Mellon carried out this project as part of its committment to reach out into the community and to give our students hands-on experience.
