Doha Singers
From Alhannah
The Doha Singers is a long established community choir. It is a mixed (SATB) choir with a current membership of about 50, primarily European and American expatriates. The singers reformed in early 2007, after the sudden and unexpected departure of its long time director, Fr. Ian Young. The singers are now directed by Bob Krebs, the choral director at ASD, and gave its first performance under his direction in May 2007 with the Doha Community Orchestra. The choir generally gives concerts at Christmas and in late Spring. During 2007-8 it gave 2 concerts with the Doha Community Orchestra.
The Doha Singers sings a mix of music â?? some older and some more modern, both secular and choral arrangements of popular music. In its most recent concert the singers performed the following: Sicut Cervus by Palestrina, Ave Verum by Mozart, Choose Something Like a Star by Randall Thompson, A Stephen Foster Tribute (a medley including Oh Susannah, Camptown Races, Old Folks at Home (Swanee River)) and Shenandoah (traditional)
The November 2008 concert is expected to include: Kyrie from Schubertâ??s Mass No. 2 in G, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, The Turtle Dove by R. Vaughan Williams and Agnus Dei by Peter Williams
Several CMU-Q faculty and staff sing in the choir. If you're interested in joining us, we meet in the ASD music room Monday nights 7-8:30 p.m. For further details contact Ian Lacey.
