I believe that Al-Gharrafa was the venue of the FIBA basketball championships for those who attended those games back in September.

Assuming that's correct, then the directions from the Riviera Complex would be to head to Education City. Turn right at the first round about past the D-ring road round about. After that right turn, you'll quickly come to another round about. The Al-Gharrafa sports complex is on the far left hand side. I know that if you turn left at the round about there is then an entrance on the right hand side. There may also be an entrance on the left hand side if you go straight through that round about.
